EXPLANATIONS – Marika Madimenos

DECEMBER 10, 2019

“As an artist, my work merges imagination, memory and perception of my experiences into an abstract body. I have always tried to express emotions on a canvas, far enough to have the viewer feel what I was feeling. Over the years, I have found that it is easier to make a connection between the canvas and the beholder through abstract work. I have always seen shapes and forms with my eyes in detail rather than whole figures. Relying on colours, pattern and design allow me to express what I truly felt without over working it.
The main idea of the series Explanations was to create a visual, abstract version of my thought process. I find myself linking subjects and ideas in an abnormal way and finding strange connections between everything. Many people cannot understand complete thought processes and only recognize bigger ideas and, perhaps, a bit of what led to it. Through this painting, some people are able to see this as a visually appealing process since they can connect it to their own minds or within their own perception however the truth of these connections will reside only in the artist. This series can very possibly continue in my work in the future. I have always believed that our minds, just as our ideas and potential are limitless, and therefore this series will be as well.”
