HOW TO GET BEAUTIFUL HAIRY LEGS – Mikaela Clark-Gardner

MARCH 20, 2018

These images are film stills taken from a how-to styled video I made called, Put on (2016). It challenges hegemonic expectations of body hair, bodily ‘maintenance’ and beauty through a role-reversal of spending time putting hair on legs rather than taking hair off. Since capitalist perception of beauty is closely tied with often naturally unattainable traits that require a product, the altercation of the body is essential for obtaining the social ideals of beauty. For instance, in a future of women becoming hairless, I think that buying body hair to attach onto the body would become a beauty trend.
